Module 1: Fundamentals of ECG
What is an ECG? An ECG (Electrocardiogram) records the electrical activity of the heart. It helps detect arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other cardiac conditions.
History of Electrocardiography Invented by Willem Einthoven in the early 1900s, ECG revolutionized cardiac diagnostics. His string galvanometer laid the foundation for modern ECG machines.
Basic Cardiac Electrophysiology The heart’s rhythm is controlled by electrical impulses originating from the sinoatrial (SA) node. These impulses travel through the atria, AV node, bundle of His, and Purkinje fibers.
Conduction System of the Heart
SA Node → AV Node → Bundle of His → Right & Left Bundle Branches → Purkinje Fibers
This system ensures synchronized contraction of heart chambers.
